Can somebody tell me if there is a bar/restaurant in RdA, to get a decent evening meal? Or even better: perhaps a communal cena in the albergue municipal?
A tienda would also work, but I'm a lousy (and lazy) cook.

Have a nice day 🤗

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I cant remember the name of the place, but it was one of the nicest meals we had in 2 Caminos,
Walk through the village to the bottom and it is a large place on the right with an outdoor area as well as large premises.
Its a wonderful restaurant/bar.
There were some other cheaper places at the top end but this place was excellent.

When I walked through there last summer, the restaurant was closed and up for sale. I would suggest pushing on to Molinaseca.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Hola @Emia, I stayed in Riego back in May/June 2017 we were able to get a meal at the hotel/bar at the Western end of the village. According to Brierley the phone number is 987418151. Hope this helps, Cheers

Gronze has kitchen and even communal meal for the albergue in RdA: https://www.gronze.com/castilla-y-leon/leon/riego-ambros/albergue-peregrinos-riego-ambros
I just passed through twice but the village looks really very quaint. Anyway you can stock up in El Acebo if you would decide to cook for yourself. One small tienda at the entrance and another one in that huge new albergue at the end of the village.

Buen Camino!

PS (Oh, it looks like RdA also has tienda according to icon beside the name of the village: https://www.gronze.com/etapa/foncebadon/ponferrada , but I would check it in El Acebo about that.)

There wasn't a communal meal in the albergue in RdA when I stayed three a few years ago, but maybe it is something they've started recently - especially if the restaurant closed.

I've heard great things about the new albergue in El Acebo, if the OP is okay with not walking quite as far.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Thank you all for your input!

It's my third CF (did the first ones in 2001 and 2008) and I prefer to stay the night in smaller villages that I haven't visited before. May is a very busy month and I want to avoid the crowds in larger and more popular towns whenever possible.

Unfortunately I forgot all about GRONZE . I last used it in 2009/2011 while walking the CdN. The famous german yellow guide was sufficient for my 5 CP's.

I wrote them a mail and they promptly answered:

* it's possible to make a reservation, which suits me well since I'm going to be a very slow walker this time
* they offer a cena comunitaria for € 6,00
* there also is one bar/restaurant in the village, where you can get a menu del peregrino for € 10,00.

Sounds perfect to me, just what I was looking for!
