Hi BP,
There seems to be some downloadable information about the Lana on the CSJ site (scroll down towards the bottom of the page as the first sections are about the Levante).
There's also some info, albeit not a guide, on Ray y Rosa. If you use GPS, Ray y Rosa seem have wikiloc tracks for most Caminos.
Wishing you a very Buen Camino - I'm envious of your plan!
Nuala
GPS tracks:Hi,
It's me again... So I wonder if there is any written guide for the Lana? In Spanish? And where I can obtain it? I know I can browse the web myself, but hey, if anyone knows already... Give me a hint... Or if it's possible to print it from the Internet. I think there's no guide for this route on Eroski?
Laurie, I read a while ago that you would walk the Lana earlier (now?), is that correct? What did you use?
I plan to start from Alicante mid-June. I haven't booked my flight yet but I think it'll be okay (fingers crossed).
Let me know if others will be around in Alicante those days!
This summer, I hope I can do the Lana, the Vasco, and finally the Invierno which I looong to walk for a second time. Or if I should substitute one of these for the Salvador....................
I hope to hear from you all or to see you from Alicante and onwards!
So which is the best guide for the Lana?
Byyyyye/BP
Just make your own booklet from those on-line guides and you'll have itThanks K1,
I found nice stuff there. I like to carry a paper guide (book) but it seems that the last one is from 2001? Oh well. Preparations have begun...
/BP

Oh yes I wiiiill! :OD
BP, I don't remember if you speak Spanish, but I think this site is helpful too.
http://www.caminosantiago.org/cpperegrino/caminos/caminover.asp?CaminoId=9
Not this year for me, but I will get there! I first got the Lana bug about five years ago in Alex's albergue in Bodenaya on the Primitivo. He had walked it in the winter and says it's really a great one.
BTW, when you get to Covarrubias, you should consider adding on a few days to walk the San Olav "backwards" from Covarrubias to Burgos, like Reb and I did last year. It is a very wonderful camino. Alexwalker has made a guide and there are a bunch of forum posts.
I will be interested to hear if you think your starting date was too late -- are you fine walking in high heat?
Buen camino, Laurie
Just checking back in to complain. Since I saw this post, I have been thinking and asking myself -- why am I walking the Norte this year? Wouldn't I be happier on the Lana? This is all your fault. It looks so wonderful, BP, I guess I am just constitutionally incapable of resisting these solitary caminos!
Oh, I read your post now so it seems you're going for the Norte. Any alternatives towards other caminos on the way? Will you repeat the Primitivo??
/BP
Well, we'll see. I do have lots of coastal alternatives loaded onto my GPS, which I will use if I head off on my own off-Camino. I think I will stay with the Norte, since I walked the Primitivo and Salvador last year as I came up from the Ebro. But the Lana is so so tempting!!! Looking forward to reading all about it. Looks like we won't cross paths in Santiago either, maybe next year!
More info! Where is this Lana guide?! Despite my best efforts with google, I cannot find it.
Every time you mention the Ruta de la Lana, BP, I find myself re-evaluating my decision to walk the Norte. Should I head to Alicante on May 22 or 23 after the Baztan? Will it be too hot?
The Lana from Alicante to Burgos is about 600 km. Mundicamino shows reasonable stages for a total of 23 days. I am a few days short because I'm meeting someone in Gijon on June 12, so I guess realistically, the Lana will have to wait.
We'll have to get one of our tech experts to tell us how to use it. I can download the one page easily, but then all I see is a page filled with those little squares filled with all sorts of weird black shapes that smart people know how to open by clicking their phone on it.It's here:

It's free so I guess there is no problem putting it here on the Forum?
Good for those who know how to use it. I have no idea.

It's QR coded and you need to download Neoreader app to your smart phone to get the file. Don't ask me how thoughThat's all I understand reading the instructions, hahaha.
And I really can't imagine authors reasons for setting such complicated procedure

Can you edit the downloaded stages into a .pdf or .docx file at all or you have to print it step by step, BP?Then of course you can print it from your PC and make your own booklet, like Kinky1 suggested above. But then I have to print the files one by one (?). There are about 20 stages and four or five separate files attached to them (1 map, 2 instructions, 3 GPS, 4 albergues, or something like that). Will it take me two days to print it??? I am not happy with this...
/BP

I am virtually certain that there is someone on the forum who can do this in a snap. And then, since it is available for free on the internet, I assume there is no problem in posting it for all the luddites among us, like me. I am going to start a new thread. I think people pity me and my terrible tech skills so maybe someone will come to the rescue.
Here are the URLs for each of the folders on that PDF. Please let me know if I missed any. Note that two of the folders seem to be empty. These are all Dropbox links. You can download the files to your own Dropbox account if you have one. If you don't, you can simply download them directly (without having to sign up for an account).

Oh my goodness, a million likes! I won't be able to check this out till I get to my computer tomorrow, but I am very grateful. BP, what do you think about the two "empty files?" Maybe a note to the author? Do you know which files are empty?
And then you can make us a gift - scan everything when in order, make one file out of many and post the complete guide hereMy plan is to check out the stages, print them, and put them in the right order so there will be a guide. I have a lot of work-related stuff to do at the moment so I don't know when. But I will come back as soon as it's done.
/BP
Yes I will do that! :ODAnd then you can make us a gift - scan everything when in order, make one file out of many and post the complete guide here
There are lots of free apps for .kml, .gpx etc. files to download on the internet. But I'm sure there are GPS tracks available on WikiLoc for example. Depends how you want to use the GPS tracks, get to them directly or save them in your phone.I've gotten so far that I have downloaded all the stages for the Lana. Luckily, there are no empty files as was suggested above? Maybe they are on the Camino de la Requena, which I haven't downloaded.
There are also files with gps and "kmz" (???) but how to save/open them is beyond me. I hope it is enough with the regular guide that contains: maps (good), rutΓ³metro (directions) and the list of bars, stores, albergues-pensiones-places to stay for each stage.
/BP
Okaaay, I will try that...There are lots of free apps for .kml, .gpx etc. files to download on the internet. But I'm sure there are GPS tracks available on WikiLoc for example. Depends how you want to use the GPS tracks, get to them directly or save them in your phone.
You don't really have to do that, BPOkaaay, I will try that...
You don't really have to do that, BPUnless you need them for yourself because you can not put GPS tracks in the guide. You just use them on your phone and anybody can do that when decided to go for La Lana. I think Camigos did very good job with those maps that are already in the guide. One just have to know how to read them though
Huh, I don't know about limitations of data in threads. But you can post it in Resources section and post a link to it here in this thread. Either way .pdf files aren't really big.Yeees I am thrilled about the maps, yum yum. That's one part of the fun. I'm currently putting them in the right order. But... Can I upload it all as one PDF here (or in the ressources section)? Aren't there a limit for how much you can upload at a time here?

Google Earth is an app that lets you explore places via satellite imagery. If you've never used it, I highly recommend you give it a try -- amazing app for anyone looking at trails. It's free. Search for it on Google. There are versions for PC and Mac. Once you've installed it, double-click on a KML or KMZ file and it will open in Google Earth. Those files contain geo-located information, such as the location of places on the trail and the trail itself. Sometimes KMZ files can contain photos as well.
A really fun feature of Google Earth is that you can use it to "fly" along the route, giving a great overview.
I guess just follow the steps for payment. I don't really remember what the procedure was when I bought Camino forum patches but even for such a IT noob as I am it was easyOkay so I tried to purchase the credencial from Ivar's store... I put 1 credencial in the cart... And where do I go to pay??

Do you have AddBlocker activated maybe???I thought I tried that, Ivar wrote to me about it as well a 2nd time. I will try...

Wow, that would be a one thick guidebookWell, all my followers.............. I can't scan it. It's like 173 pages (!!!) and I can't send it to my computer. :O(
Can you divide it into sections and then scan each section? Or can you copy a series of "pages" into your browser to make a scanable section?Well, all my followers.............. I can't scan it. It's like 173 pages (!!!) and I can't send it to my computer. :O(
