Last night Spanish TV showed the archbishop of Santiago locking the Puerta Santa of the cathedral, at the end of the Pope's Jubileo de la Misericordia. It will next be opened in the next Año Santo Jacobeo in 2021.

No, thankfully!
But one will have greater troubles to have all his-her sins forgiven until 2021!
(Those who feel an urge, the Holy Doors in Rome are only sealed next Sunday )

I went through the holy door in Santiago Cathedral last week, a few days before it closed. Now, I am not sure why. It was a very low-key experience, with only the security guard there to insure that I did not go out of it again. I did not perform any of the other requirements for getting a pass on purgatory, nor could I have, not being a Roman Catholic. I suppose it was the "last chance" feeling about the experience. I hope that those of you to whom this opportunity was very meaningful have experienced the satisfaction that you expected in walking through.
