Hotel near Madrid Airport

Hello all,

I shall have to spend a night in Madrid between flights after my Camino. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a cheapish hotel as close to the airport as possible. Many thanks, you are all so helpful.

Hi, sansthing,
I've never stayed at a hotel near Barajas, but since no one has offered any suggestions, here's some second-hand information. My parents have spent the night here: http://www.clementhoteles.com/ It's a business hotel, probably like many other faceless hotels near major airports, but the one difference is that it's actually in the town of Barajas, so you're not just stranded in the midst of criss-crossing interstates and warehouses.

I don't know how late you arrive into Madrid or how early your flight is the next day, but I would much rather get up 45 minutes earlier and stay in downtown Madrid if it were at all possible. With the new airport express bus, you could find a hotel close to Cibeles, Atocha, or its other stop, which escapes me now, and be assured of a direct trip back out to the airport.

When I have to be on an early plane, I always stay at the Hotel Ibis in Barajas. It is reliably spotless, if a little lacking in character. There´s also a small family-run hotel right off the plaza -- and the plaza is about all there is to see in Barajas! (sorry I cannot remember the name, but the lady who runs it is nice!) You can just roll up at either place and get a room, both are walking distance from the subway stop.

Another possibility is Hotel Axor Feria. It is about a five minute drive from the airport with the hotel providing regular complimentary shuttle service between airport and hotel. The room cost with advanced booking is about 50 euros per night, single or double. It is well maintained, modern and comfortable.

Many thanks for your replies. I think the Ibis as well as the Axor Feria have shuttle services. Ideal for me as I wanted to avoid public transport alone at night with luggage.

Our best find so far was Hostal Viky in Barajas village, a new, well equipped pension, offering just about as much as these larger hotels in the areas far as sleeping accommodation is concerned, and far cheaper. There is, however, no sitting room area. This is not in the zone of the large impersonal hotels that abound around the airport, but rather in the old town, (which I never even knew existed). You can arrive by metro from Madrid, walk to the "hotel" (about 1 km). Around the central square are several restaurants, small shops, internet café's etc. They offer free shuttle service to the airport. I would most certainly stay there again. Anne

Hi,
I am faced with the same question. Have you been yet? Where did you stay? I will fly from Santiago into Madrid but will need a bed before flying out to Australia the next day. Thanks sriyantra

Hi annakappa,
I just looked up Hostal Viky and it does look good. I am faced with an overnight stay in Madrid and my flight to Australia doesn't leave until 10pm the next night. From what you have said it looks like we could spend some time walking around Varajas village with our packs staying at Hostal Viky until we leave for the airport. Sound like a good plan? We have been to the agent today to get prices/times for flights and will go back tomorrow and make the definite bookings. We are planning on leaving Australia on the 1st September. Exciting/nervous...... sriyantra

I booked the Crowne Plaza which has free airport trans. It was 45 euros
