Hotel recommendations along the CF

As per title, I am looking for hotel recommendations along the CF - or places you would recommend against.

We are a family of 4 and are planning a mix of albergues and hotels, but probably more hotels than not..

Hi Gumba,

You will be spoilt for choices. I walked the Frances in 2011 and returned for the Meseta this year. Incredible how much new places. If this is for the better..now that is another discussion.

Gronze is a good reference. It gives you a good idea what is available.

Also take into consideration that lots of albergues have small dorms where there are only two bunkbeds, making it ideal ( if booking is possible ) for your family.
For instance the albergue Tio Pepe in Villar de Mazarife has such rooms.

One place that is very comfortable and friendly in Zubiri is El Palo Avellano. They offer both dorm spaces and private accommodation plus good food.
Several small traditional stone structures have been nicely converted into the multilevel space and they provide a delicious communal dinner as well as breakfast.

We stayed at three hotels run by nuns:

Hospedería Cisterciense, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, http://www.cister-lacalzada.com/
Albergue y hospedería de las MM. Benedictinas, Sahagún, http://www.monasteriosantacruz.com/web/
Hospedería Monástica Pax, León, http://www.hospederiapax.com/EN/home.html

All were on or just a block away from the camino.

I stayed in hotels / hostales on my 3rd Camino Frances. I stayed for 2 nights each in the Paradors in Santo Domingo, Leon and Villafranca del Bierzo and would recommend anyone do the same.

I can recommend the Hotel A C in Burgos.
It might be a bit more expensive than you want to pay, but it has everything and in a great location.
Check it out.

I would recommend several Casa Rurales/hotels/hostales that I stayed at:

Sansol: El Olivo de Sansol lovely home, wonderful hostess. I paid 25 euro for a room with 2 single beds/shared bath (but I was the only one using the bath at the time)

Villafranca Montes de Oca: Hotel San Anton Abad - very nice hotel, and also albergue I paid 50 euro (splurge!) for a very nice room with queen bed/ensuite bath

Villafranca del Bierzo: San Nicolas el Real Hospederia - beautiful, huge old convent building housing hotel rooms and albergue dorms. And a great deal. I paid just 25 euro for a huge room with two double beds/ensuite bath.

Hostal San Martin near the Cathedral in Leon. Excellent rooms. No food but plenty of cafes close by.
