How to see the Lignum Crucis at Sto Toribio monastery

Very few know about this amazing relic, the largest existing piece of the true Cross. It was exceptionally difficult to figure this out with little internet info on how to get there. It was well hidden in the mountains for a reason!
Camino Lebianego goes directly there from San Vicente de Barquera. But I am on the Norte. Here is how to do it:

1 bus daily around 11:30am from San Vicente or Unquerra costs about 3eu to get to Potes in an hour. But ticket on bus. From Potes walk up 3 km (about 35 min) very steep road path to the Monasterio de Santo Toribio or call taxi.

Daily pilgrim mass is around noon but with the bus schedule you will miss it unless you go the night before. Gift shop is nice but closes at 2. I just made that but had to wait til 4p for the Capilla to open where is housed the Lignum Crucis. Return bus leaves at 4:45 so not much time to spend there.

It is a spectacular winding bus ride through the Pico's de Europa.

From Unquera since it is so late you can catch a bus for 2 eu to Llanes to continue with the next stage or stay a 2nd night in Unquera or wherever. In Unquera buy Llanes ticket from Alsa vendor at Sushi bar at bus depot or across street at Cafe Bar Granja where they are very helpful.

While I lost this stage, it was a once in a lifetime very powerful experience that I wouldn't have missed for the world. It's not about the destination, but the journey.

UPDATE:THERE ARE VERY SMALL SLIVERS ALSO AT 2 OTHER PLACES ON THE NORTE, DONATED FROM TORIBIO. AT SANTANILLA DE MAR COLEGIATA AND AT IGLESIA ST TOMAS CANTERBURY IN AVILES. NOT NEARLY AS IMPRESSIVE BUT WORTH A VISIT.

The Norte goes through S. Vicente de la Barquera and for some distance the Lebaniego and the Norte share paths. If you want to take the trip to Sto. Toribio you can just turn where they split.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Tku ..Yes...but it's a long and difficult 4+ day uphill journey...this is intended for those who want a day trip off the Norte. Kudos to those who do both at once!!!
