If I arrive at 7:15 (bus from Pamplona) is it too late to check in municipal albergue? Stayed there before, but had checked in during the day.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

When you arrive in SJPdP go to the Pilgrim Office at 39 rue de La Citadelle which is on the camino. In season they stay open until 23:00. From there you gain access to the municipal albergue which does not accept reservations. If it is full the helpful volunteers at the office will try to find you another bunk.

Buen camino!

This is good news as I am arriving very late in St. Jean on Sept 15. (taxi from Pamplona) Thanks for that info mspath. :)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi Mark, as mspath already stated is that no problem.
Wish you a Buen Camino, Peter.

Four options:

Take your chances on finding a bed at an albergue or Gite.

Make a reservation for a single room(is more expensive).

Sleep on a park bench.

Stop travel not later 1800 at Bayonne or Pamplona and go to SJPdP in the morning. This option makes a lot of sense if you've already been traveling for more than 8 hours.

During the summer, I would bet on the municipal albergue being full by 1700, anything after that is private accommodations.

Been there before a couple of times, but just didn't know their hours. I would be flying in to Madrid, and bus from there to Pamplona and then catch the later bus into SJPdP. I liked the municipal albergue. Stayed there last time, but got there earlier. If that's full I got no problem staying at a private one.

Sent a message to the private albergue Le Chemin Vers L'Etoile in SJPdP yesterday inquiring about reserving a bed, but no response from them yet.
Any recommendations on hostels (not albergues) in Pamplona?

Is there a list of albergues that also have private rooms on the Camino Frances? Gracias.
Hi everyone -- After walking the Frances from SJpdP last October, I'm planning to revisit the bit between Logrono and Burgos this July, following different stages. It's the section where I had...
I started out from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on 1 May. It turned out to be an unforgetable day. Above 1,000 m or so it snowed, catching many people unprepared. Later that day "many" walkers were...
And another attempt looms, to buy a decent Poncho after trying and failing in the previous two likely towns. Anyone know where an Altos or similar might be bought in Leon, please? 😁
