Important update:

From this year on, the albergue de peregrinos in San Sebastian opens at the new location, at Avenida Navarra 1, which is right at the entrance of San Sebastian after the steep descent from Monte Ulia, at Mariaren Bihotza Ikastola (there is a big blue sign on the building):

The old location at Calle Escolta Real, 12 is obsolete.
This is the last moment change, so all the printed guides will still list the old address. Do not go there - it is almost 4 km further and it is closed.

The albergue will open tomorrow - on the 1 July 2016 and will stay open until 30th of August. There are 60 places in bunkbeds + 20 matresses. No kitchen or dining room, just a place to sleep and the showers. The albergue is run on the voluntary (donativo) basis by the volunteers from the Guipúzcoa Association of the Friends of the Camino.

It would be nice if the first pilgrims who will stay there leave some opinions below in this thread, because as of now there is no single review available yet. The opinions which you can find online may be misleading, as they most likely refer to the OLD albergue (those written at 2015 and before).

Buen Camino a todos!
And I hope it helps :)

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Hi Arthur. Thank you for this very useful information. My friend and I are planning to spend our first night there on Monday, 18th July. It was a very long way to the "old" albergue so I am happy that we won't have to walk in vain. :)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I would love an update on how this new albergue is when someone gets the chance to stay here. I am planning on staying here when I start the Camino on August 9th! Is it possible to make a reservation??

Elevation map shows this is really steep! What’s the best way from downtown Hondarribia up there? Then wish me luck on the Purgatorio—I am a nervous wreck.
My group of six arrives in Irun on May 20 and we're starting our Camino on May 21. Since it's the beginning of the busy season, I'm wondering if we should order trekking poles from Amazon Espana...
On the Norte...started Morgo headed to Santilanna del mer...today...wonderful walk.... 1st 7k and last 7k ...the middle industrail zone was meh. Just past polonca met loverly local spanish...
If anyone is in an albergues in or near Santillana del mar on the 1st of May and comes across Nadia from Ottawa would they kindly point her in the direction of this thread. Thanks all.....
