Introducing myself

Hi, I'm Kristine and I am planning my first pilgrimage in September starting at St Jean Pied de Port. Is this a good time to travel? I do not handle the heat very well which is why I waited for Autumn.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hola - wlecome to the forum.

Sure it is a great time to walk the Camino. Are you planning on walking the Camino Frances or another route? Where do you plan to start from?

You'll find the forum a great source of information and fellowship.

John

John, yes, I am planning on walking the Camino Frances and starting at St Jean Pied de Port. I will be travelling solo. Being a Holy year will it still be very busy?

Hi Kristine,
I started from SJPdP on 05Sep09 and I can tell you it was darn hot. From all accounts, it was well above 30C for at least the first week and didn't really go much below a daytime temperature of 30C for at least the first couple of weeks. Now I am quoting locals along the way and fellow pilgrims because I did not have access to much media during those early days of my Camino. Suffice it to say, carry plenty of water with you so you don't get dehydrated, especially the first day if you are going all the way up over the mountain to Roncesvalles. Watering holes are scarce to say the least...and oh ya, a hat with a good brim on it really helped me.
That said about the heat, it was a wonderful time of year (at least last year) to do a Camino in.
Enjoy yours!
Bill
