Is it slowing down this year?

Time of past OR future Camino
2006 to date: Over 21 Caminos. See signature line
I've heard from a few albergue owners that the Camino has slowed down a bit this season.

Any numbers from Johnnywalker or anyone in the Camino office?
How do this years' pilgrim numbers compare with last years so far?
Just curious.

Guides that will let you complete the journey your way.
Expecting falcon's report

Although I remember post with numbers for April. Slight rise I think?

I'd don't have any hard numbers, but the albergue operators I've been talking to this past month have generally told me the opposite -- they're seeing *higher* traffic. The comment I also hear from them though is that they are often finding less actual guests due to greater competition. The number of private albergues has exploded over the past two years, plus many pensións have dropped their prices so low that they are now direct competitors too. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of a shake-out happening soon.

It will be interesting to see how this year shapes up. I know that traffic on my site is about triple what it was last year at this time, but there probably isn't a one-to-one correlation between my site's traffic and feet on the ground! LOL

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I wouldn't have thought we will see the start of a decline until 2016 or 17.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
17.722 peregrinos received their Compostella in April. Don't think that is a sign of slowing down. SY

Thanks! Yes! Arrived the 29th in Vacha (German Camino for those that wonder!) Marvellous way, I really am astonished why so few people walk it, SY
It's off-topic for this thread, but please create a new topic to discuss your walk. I don't know that Camino and would love to hear more. Did you blog it on your site (I haven't checked it recently)?

Regardless, it's good to see you back on the forums. I always enjoy your comments.

Off topic warning and apology for the threadnap:

Thanks for your kind words. No, not yet, but I collected enough material to post a long intro to the Ecumenical Pilgrims Way in Germany. A truly amazing walk, keep watching this space as the saying goes. SY

A selection of Camino Jewellery
Great! Maybe you and I should work together on an app for that trail...

Now that is a great idea! Let's keep it in mind, but first I have to do my tax return for this year. If you hear somebody screaming madly it is me, I do hate numbers ...
SY

PS My deepest apologies for the threadnap, again, I promise to shut up now! SY

Wrong reports! See what has happened so far during the first 4 months of 2015:
Pilgrim arrivals in Santiago from January to April 2015 (2014) and variance %
Total arrivals for the first 4 months of the year were 25’563 (22’354) + 14%
Camino Francés arrivals: 16’826 (14’745) + 14% representing 66% of all arrivals.
57% (53%) of the Camino Francés pilgrims started from O’Cebreiro [1’354 (1’010) +21%] and Sarria [8’214 (6’779) + 34%].
Camino Portugués arrivals: 4’830 (4’406) + 10% representing 19% of all arrivals. Increasing numbers of pilgrims started from Tui (+25%), Oporto (+17%) and Valença (+14%)

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
