late September/ early October busy?

Many thanks for those very useful responses to our queries. And another question.

We have just been booking accommodation in Le Puy for a late September start to our walk and two hotels are already unavailable. I know this is a special year but thought the busy time would be over by now - does anyone know if it will be a busy time for walking or have we just struck Le Puy at a hectic time?

warm regards to all -
Laraine and Bronwyn

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
As well as being a pilgrim town, Le puy is also a tourist town which might have some affect on numbers and accomodation. There is a pilgrim refuge in le Puy (I didn't stay there though and so I am not sure if it can be booked) The Hotel I stayed in was the hotel St Jacques. Good luck, Janet

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Thanks again for the suggestions - the next question is how busy will the route be and should we look at booking accommodation ahead each morning? Would prefer not to do that as it would be nice to take each day as it comes. cheers - laraine and bronwyn

You should be ok I would think. As you get along though you will be getting closer to the end of the season and so you might want to book some places just to check that they will be open when you get there. It would be awful if you have to backtrack 5 kms to get to an open gite or even worse have to walk an extra 5 or 10 if you are really tired, but at the beginning of the month it should be fine I would hazard a guess. cheers, Janet

Then I know I will not be alone.... :D, I will also arrive Le Puy late September :D

Like you I am not too happy about the idea of having to prebook days ahead, but if one must, one must. Maybe see when I get there, and ask at the touristoffice :D
