Time of past OR future Camino
No caminos. Hiked Jesus Trail in Israel in 2013.
Camino Portuguese & Inglese 5/18
Male 72. Headed to Porto from Sacramento, CA on 27 Apr. Then 1 May I’ll be hiking Porto to Santiago. Then train to Madrid & Toledo for a few days. I’m supposed to start hiking again from Lisbon to Porto on 19 May but Im seriously considering changing that and taking a train or plane back to Santiago and hiking to Finisterra Muxie.
Would appreciate feedback.

Hi Jay
You don't explain why you are planning to do the final part of the Portugues first and then go back later and do the earlier section - so I'll assume you have your reasons and aren't wanting someone to suggest you do it the other way round...
Lisbon to Porto is a whole different trip to Santiago-Finisterre-Muxia. The latter is much shorter even if you loop back to Santiago. The Lisbon road is a less-travelled one with a lot of road walking and probably not many pilgrims and, the accommodation planning may require more thought. I see from your signature you were going to do the Ingles - that's actually quite a decent compromise between the two options you've asked us to consider.
Cheers, tom

I walked between Lisbon and Porto and also between Porto and Santiago, all on the central route. The routes feel quite different. There are enough albergues now on the route from Lisbon and the way is getting more and more popular, so most probably you won't be walking there alone unless you want it. Regarding Lisbon to Porto: it is much more physically strenious, very long distances between towns all the way to Coimbra, absence of cafes and water fountains on the route sometimes for many kilometers, so you need to carry extra water there. Plenty of cobblestones to remember and a lot of road walking. The spirit of Camino that you feel after Porto on the central way is not yet there as for most of the Portuguese the only Camino is the Camino to Fatima. The route is still enjoyable, I loved nature there, especially between Golega and Coimbra. After Coimbra is goes more urban/suburban and a lot of fences everywhere. I'd rather go to Fisterra/Muxia. I remember the best for me was splitting the walk between two and stayin in the albergue in Lires. The most tranquil and picturesque beauty there. The best thing to finish your Camino.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
