Madrid airport to Pamplona

We are booked for our next camino and will be flying into Madrid again. Looking for the best way to get from the airport to pamplona. Last time we stayed in Madrid and left from the bus terminal. thought there might be a better way since we are not spending time in Madrid this time. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Last winter I flew into Terminal 4 and took a city bus downtown (I think it is bus 200 or 210). The bus company PLM Cares runs a bus service to Pamplona. If you use GoogleMaps and click on directions, it will should give you a step by step route from the terminal, to the downtown bus (complete with photos of where to catch it right outside terminal 4), then to the bus company, and on to Pamplona. I found the PLM Cares bus company site through the GoogleMaps link given on the directions and looked at their daily routes. There is an express bus to Pamplona as well as several that stop numerous places along the way.

No need to go downtown. Alsa does direct buses from Madrid Airport T4 to Pamplona.

Buses leave daily at 1:15am, 10:45am and 15:15pm (and an extra bus at 20:00 on weekends).

Good to know, I think I used PLM Cares because I needed to go to Santo Domingo which is enroute to Pamplona.

It may be too late for you, but if you are flying Iberia or a partner (American and BA are the two I know) you should look into adding on the flight from Madrid to Pamplona. And then the leg from Santiago to Madrid at the end of the camino. I have been doing this for years now, and it adds very little cost to a round trip ticket from my home through Chicago to Madrid. And it makes the travel part so hassle-free — any missed connections become the airline’s problem if it is all on one ticket.

Thanks for this helpful info! I am planning on flying to Madrid and getting to Pamplona via bus or train, but I think I will look into the flights as well. I stopped in Pamplona last time and took the train to Astorga and walked from there. I would like to see what I missed in the middle section.

This is the way I did it from Los Angeles. Then took a taxi from Pamplona airport to the albergue I had reserved for the night. Next day a bus ride to SJPD. Very easy. Buen Camino!

You can also take a train from the airport to the Madrid train terminal and then a train to Pamplona.

I tried the connecting flight on Iberia but they would not confirm it and allow me to continue. We will use the alsa bus from the airport. Thanks to all.

I recently walked the Camino from Pamplona and flew in from Madrid with Air Nostrum (part of Iberia). If you have walking poles then your pack has to be checked luggage.

For those wafting through this thread at some point, you do not need to necessarily check poles. I have NEVER had a problem putting my rubber tipped, telescoping poles inside my backpack. I've flown multiple airlines to a myriad of different locations far and wide.

The bullet train from Madrid train terminal to Pamplona? I stopped at Torres del Rio last March (2018) due to injury so was going to fly to Madrid then flight to Pamplona then bus to TdR but would prefer train to Pamplona. Going in September. NancyLee from Canada

Please note that I used the Trainline app (Android) to make my booking because the Renfe website often has problems accepting non Spanish credit cards. Also look for tourist specials as these tickets are cheaper but non cancelable
