Madrid to Sarria

A friend in the US is trying to book a 10pm ticket from Madrid to Sarria on 16th June. She will be meeting her folks in Sarria on the 17th June.
Would it be better for her folks to book the ticket - say in Ponferrada?
Would she be able to collect it in Madrid?
This is also a Tren Hotel so I am not sure what to advise her.
Can anyone help?
