She was certainly over 60, probably older. But I couldn't tell as I was sitting, maybe 100 meters away, in the shade, resting from the blistering sun, on the outskirts of a tiny village somewhere in Burgundy.
She held a bottle of water and asked if I wanted some. And I stupidly waved her away, saying that I had all that I needed (true).
Whereas I should have thanked her profusely for her generous and thoughtful gesture.
I should have drank that water and told her a bit about where I come from and tell her how blessed she is to live in this incredible region. And maybe listen to her story.
I've regretted all afternoon.
Hopefully I've learned my lesson.
