Time of past OR future Camino
9.04.2017
Hello/Hola to everybody here ))
I'm Elvira from England.
It feels like it is my time for Camino.
I'm going to have a week walk from Sarria from the beginning of April.
I'm doing nearly every day walks for 8-14 km and going to increase the distance up to 20-24 per day later.
The main two worries are:
- I'm complete rubbish at navigating ((((((
- how safe is it for a petite woman to walk alone in a foreign land
I have some worries about my physical ability and condition for this long trip, but I hope I will be much stronger after three months of training.
I'm happy to join this forum as it seems here is a lot of vital information I need to learn.
Buen Camino ))))

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I am 5'2", I walked alone each time no problems whatsoever. As you look through the posts you will notice a number of women have walked solo. Besides, from Sarria to SdC, you will not be alone.

Enjoy

I'm the same 5'2" ))). Yes, I've started to read and it is really pretty normal to walk solo. So, I will just concentrate on other things like preparation, packing, flights, etc.
Thank you !

Hola, Elvira!

I think you should stay home and stucked to your computer:
-ad1: there are so many yellow arrows on Camino Frances that you'll lost your track immediatelly. Again, stay home or bring a SpecialOps Guy with you...,
ad2: very dangerous. Very, very dangerous as we usual suspects tend to take petite "objects" which are still in albergues after 8AM in our backpacks. So if you are really petite you might get a free ride - not something you wish for "walking" the Camino :)

Wish all the best, Buen Camino and Ultreia!

Hehe )))
I thought it might be very confusing with all those yellow arrows and also very dangerous, but I will give it a try ))).

Agree, completely, although I don't see with what :D

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Would be helpful but the numbers are the same as in English (only centigrade!) ;)

April is a GREAT time to walk. Semana Santa (Easter week) starts April 9th next year, so you'll see a lot of open churches and probably some processions. The week before, there will a lot of off-key music in the evenings as the local religious associations will be practicing for their Big Day.

(I'm a BIG fan of Spanish Easter celebrations.)

Just make sure you Google "Nazarenos" in advance, so you won't be shocked. No, they're not KKK...

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Thank you Heidi !

I think it is definitely a very good time to do the Camino. Even I'm not a religious reason for my walk, it is always very interesting to see such things.

Yes, will have a look at those nazarenos )))

Gracias x

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Just start walking. Then gradually increase your distance, carry your backpack, and increase the weight you carry. Three months is plenty of time to build up strength and endurance.
Buen camino.

Been camino.

Thank you Kaixo!
I'm already in training, and will have to increase the distance gradually.
Agree three months is enough to get into the right fitness condition.
Buen Camino

Hi Elvira,
I'm also 5'2" and I completed the Camino Frances on my own this year and did not have any worries for my safety.
From Sarria there'll always be people around and while at times you might have to look a bit at intersections for the next marker or yellow arrow you should have no trouble navigating.
Buen Camino

Hola Terri

Looks like our 5'2" girls club is growing )))
Thank you ! Will do my best not to get lost .

Buen Camino !

No worries. You are only walking over 100km so 5 days easy. Arrows everywhere and very very safe. Stick to silly old men and they will mind you. Serious no problem and no worries Buen camino

Only 100 km sounds like really nothing )))).

Ok will be looking for silly old men then )))).

Gracias
Buen Camino
