Yes I started walking Sept 15, should be in santiago on the 22 and muxia the 28.@jgiesbrecht, are you familiar with the Western Union system? There is a Western Union option at Correos y Telegrafos in Sarria and they are open tomorrow morning. Best of luck. (And I am pretty confident that you are indeed from Canada and have indeed walked from SJPP this month ... pity that you didn't post more on this forum since then ...)
I can check it out tmw...I have a short day, only samos to sarria, so I'm going to try atms again and if they dont work I'll try to look at western union again....I was just looking at the app but my one credit card wants to text a code...which I wont get causethat phone is at home hahaha..I have enough to get to Santiago if I'msure I can get more.by then...just need enough for a bit of food and the hostels...I just looked at your blog. Lovely photos! Hmm...I just looked up the Correos offices in Sarria and Samos and they're both closed on Saturdays! Ack! Not sure how long you can hold out but with the weekend coming up Western Union may not be the best option. If I get some more definitive information on those Correos office hours I'll let you know...
I had the same issue - my husband sent me money via Western Union and didn't include my middle name, which is on my passport. When using Western Union through Correos, it is really important to use exactly the name as written in the passport; e.g., James Robert Catface, rather than James Catface, or Jimmy Catface, or Jim Bob Catface. I have experienced them refusing a transfer as my middle name was missing (straightened out with a call to Visa, but that's another story).
U can sign up for a card called revolut. Its like Europe's version of PayPal if you will. But you link it to your bank account and can use it virtually on your smart phoneAre there any Canadians in or near Sarria tomorrow? I've been on the camino for over a month and very low on cash. My cards have not been letting me do a cash advance (which I could pay off right away).....
I'm looking for canadians because I could do an etransfer to you on the spot. I have money back home, so we would be able to even out immediately, so no risk to you. The cash card I brought wont let me reload from the bank account because of some issues, and neither credit card has worked at atms for cash advances.
If anyone from somewhere else is going to be in sarria and has a diff way they think I could switch with them I'm all ears too.
Please no judgement forthis....I had 3 methods that all have issues before coming to this spot, and didnt bring the actual debit card because too mich liability if I were to lose that over a credit card.
Sometimes they can email you the code if phone not available.I can check it out tmw...I have a short day, only samos to sarria, so I'm going to try atms again and if they dont work I'll try to look at western union again....I was just looking at the app but my one credit card wants to text a code...which I wont get causethat phone is at home hahaha..I have enough to get to Santiago if I'msure I can get more.by then...just need enough for a bit of food and the hostels...
So i can use my fistera to muxia hostel money if I know I have more by santiago..
Thanks for looking into it
Jim Bob Catface, love it!When using Western Union through Correos, it is really important to use exactly the name as written in the passport; e.g., James Robert Catface, rather than James Catface, or Jimmy Catface, or Jim Bob Catface. Absolutely.@jgiesbrecht let us know what happened!
How do you use it to get cash??U can sign up for a card called revolut. Its like Europe's version of PayPal if you will. But you link it to your bank account and can use it virtually on your smart phone
It works like every other ATM card. If you have it virtually all you have to do is go to an ATM that accepts virtual make sure that NFC is turned on, on your phone, and it will work like a regular ATM card. Most banks will have this technologyHow do you use it to get cash??
