New albergue in Portugalete

Just saw Javier's link to an article describing a new albergue in Portugalete.

It must be very centally located, since the picture shows the bridge in the background. Main improvement seems to be that it will be open from June through September, whereas the other was only open in high summer (July and August).

The article says that the number of beds is the same as the old one, 28, and it will open to pilgrims at 3 pm.

Hoping to sleep there this summer, though I may be a few days too early! Buen camino, Laurie

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi Laurie, that is great news! There is also the Albergue Bide Ona in Portugalete, which is not (yet) mentioned in Dave’s Cicerone guide book. In Oct 2016 late afternoon the donativo was closed, Hostal Santa Maria was closed and Pension la Guia had a sign on the door saying “Go Away” no I mean it had a cell phone number on the door with nobody answering on the other end. Trying to think of Plan D I spotted another peregrina looking lost. She (a nice French lady) said she was looking for Bide Ona. MapsMe on my smartphone came to the rescue, and we managed to find it (very well hidden in the back streets). Great place too! Highly recommend! Jill

Elevation map shows this is really steep! What’s the best way from downtown Hondarribia up there? Then wish me luck on the Purgatorio—I am a nervous wreck.
My group of six arrives in Irun on May 20 and we're starting our Camino on May 21. Since it's the beginning of the busy season, I'm wondering if we should order trekking poles from Amazon Espana...
