The convent of Santa Clara in Medina de Rioseco is presently renovating a building formerly used by pilgrims on the Way to Santiago along the Camino de Madrid.
"Carrión" weekly reports that almost 200,000 Euros, much of it provided by area businesses as well as EU and Junta grants, will be used to recondition one of two convent buildings into a new albergue suited for up to 18 pilgrims, complete with handicap facilities, kitchen, and dining areas.
The convent is a huge walled complex that stands right at the pilgrim entrance to Medina de Rioseco, a truly charming old town north of Valladolid. The new facility will open in time for the summer season, the Superior said.
