New bear in the Pyrenees....

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I see this article was written on the 1st April. Is that significant? I don't think the Wall Street Journal would normally be interested in this topic. I really don't want to come across a randy angry bear on our journey.

When I lived in Lake of the Woods, Ontario there was a favourite story about "green" woodsmen on their first expedition into the forest . . .

Greenhorn goes into equipment store and buys EVERYTHING he can see. He's just about to pay when he sees a little dish of brass bells by the cash desk.
"What are these for?"
"Them? Them's bear bells - you sew a few round the cuffs of your pants and the noise scares the bears away."
"Bears? There are bears in the woods?"
"Oh yeh! We got black bear, we got brown bear and sometimes we got grizzly bear too"
"H-h-how can you tell the difference?"
"Well your black bear is mainly vegetarian, you see scat with bits of berries and nuts in it and that's black bear scat. Your brown bear is more carnivourous, so you'll see bits of fur and bone in it."
"And grizzly? How about grizzly?"
"Oh, grizzly is easy - their scat has little brass bells in it!

Thank you for sharing this. I couldn't bear to think that I almost didn't see any good 1 Apr articles this year.

If this was an April Fools prank, I suspect @Mark Lee was on to it! Last year I think it was @Al the optimist who was pulling our legs. Or was that the year before? (Did anyone else have a lot of trouble getting to that article ? Kept running into ads...?)

No April Fools - the bear has been around since at least 1997 busy doing what comes naturally

If you want to see bears on the Camino you would be better off walking the primitivo or Norte routes

Wear good boots or better still runners

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

No joke and them bears be there in the Pyrenees.
One good rule of thumb in bear country is to always be with someone else slower than you are if a bear goes after you.
Besides, there are way more ill tempered wild boar along the Camino than bears.

ha ha...no, the story is legit
you are from bear country, huh?
