Hello everyone!

My name is Mara, and I am from the US. I am currently in Granada, Spain, but will be traveling north over the next few days in order to start El Camino Frances early next week (May 2 or 3 probably). I´m glad I chose to become a member of the forum, although I am starting to wish I had done so earlier! Anyhow, I will be walking alone, and am starting to get just a tad nervous about that being that I am young and female, so any encouragement would be welcome. And if by chance you are planning on getting going at about the same time from SJPP or Roncesvalles, send me a line; I know this is last minute, but it´s worth a try.

Hope to see some of you soon!
Mara

P.S. Thanks to the folks who keep up this site -- it was a real help in planning!

Hey! Don't worry about walking alone! There will be plenty of people to join up with along the way. :) I've walked 2 portions of the Camino, each time starting off alone, but by the end of the 1st or 2nd day, having made enough friends along the way to enjoy a meal with or walking together for the next day or so.

Buen Camino! I won't be back until at least last September/early October.

Don't worry a bit about walking alone! You will only be alone as much as you choose to be! I walked alone last summer (although I'm not young) and made lots of friends and acquaintances rapidly! Especially on the Francés you will have nothing to worry about!
Buen Camino,

Hi Mara and welcome to the Forum :)
There is a great age range on the Camino and there is really no problem about setting out alone.
If you stop at Rabanal I will be working as hospitalero during last 2 weeks of June in Refugio Gaucelmo so we may meet.
Buen Camino,

Brendan

Thanks for the encouragement, guys! It looks like I´ll be starting up tomorrow. Yesterday I arrived in Pamplona via bus, and already when I got off the bus I met two groups who are doing El Camino. I head to Roncesvalles tonight and I can´t wait!!!
