Hiya,

Well after seeing The Way i can't get this out of my head and so I've decided to do Leon to Santiago in the first 2 weeks of September. From what i've read, it seems that 2 weeks should suffice, tho i'm planning to take a little longer, maybe an extra 2 days to rest when necessary. As i've never done this before, do you think that 16 - 17 days should suffice? Although everybody seem to thing that 20-25km a day is achievable, I'm afraid that I will collaps after the first day. I'm not overweight or anything, 32 and used to be quite fit... not so much lately as I seem to always find a chair to rest on. With this in mind, please let me know what you think.

I'm planning to fly to Madrid and then take the train to Leon. I understand that this is the best option...

Also, I'm planning on travelling alone and I understand that although generally safe, as a solo woman I might run into problems here and there. Is this route busy in September? Presumably I'll be able to join a group or just walk behind people and so eliminating all risks?

In terms of weather, how hot is it in September?

Any other tips are most welcomed

(1) This should allow you to comfortably reach Santiago. An average of 19 km/day;
(2) Last year we had a VERY busy September, and there is no reason to suppose a quieter period this time;
(3) That's what usually happens and you will be able to experience this too;
(4) That's asking for too much :lol: Last year was the hottest and driest September on record. Unbearably hot between 12 noon and 3 pm. However, the year before we had a nice September month, with rains starting the first week of October.

You shouldn't have any problems walking as a solo woman. You will very quickly become part of the Camino family and feel fairly safe. Just exercise common sense with your belongings and personal safety.

just for your info, as I just looked this info up, the train from Madrid to Leon is about double the cost of the bus. And there is a bus that leaves from Barajas T4 (terminal 4) direct to Leon. Around 22euros. The train may be a little faster, but the buses are quite safe and comfortable.

I also watched "The Way" and 4 days later bought tickets for my husband and I to fly to Spain to do the walk. We are starting in Pamploma on Sept. 19th. Hopefully make it to Santiago by Oct. 28th.
