That is the risk that you take when you buy separate tickets vs one through ticket. Of course the reward can be a much lower price, but it's because you take the risk, rather than the airline. The (sometimes) higher price of a single through ticket is basically insurance against this happening. One month out, and my flight to Europe is cancelled, just like that! It's the middle of three legs, so now my flight to LAX and from Milan to Porto are useless. Why oh why did I try to save money by going with stupid Norwegian? Sorry--I'm sure I'll find something (much more expensive at the last minute), but I'm so frustrated, I just had to vent!
It is a tough competition, though. United, American, and British Airways are on my "worst" list (if more than one can be worst semantically). They have taken over from RyanAir as the worst airline to fly with now in my opinion

But I sat back and relaxed knowing that Delta would take care of me. When we landed in Amsterdam, the first thing that popped up on my phone was my new boarding pass. While I leisurely walked to my new gate there was this mad scramble of passengers running to the help desks to stand in line hoping to get a new connecting flight.
I'm so sorry to hear that. But it wouldn't hurt to call your other airlines and ask for some flexibility, given what happened. Also, did you buy trip insurance? Because if you did it may cover any increase in fares under these circumstances if you have to rearrange thingsOne month out, and my flight to Europe is cancelled, just like that! I flew recently on Delta from Seattle to Frankfurt via Amsterdam with a 52 minute connection between flights. I bought my tickets directly from Delta. Our plane did not leave Seattle for over 90 minutes due to mechanical issues. This caused great angst onboard to those who had tight connections like me ...
This reminds me of an old Italian adage my late Sicilian grandmother once told me many decades ago. It has stuck with me all these years. It also remains very true.
"Buy cheap....pay twice..."

I was booked with Norwegian, too. They changed flight times and couldn't make connections. They refunded money. Booked with American, more expensive, but direct flights, meals, checked luggage. So sorry for your dilemma. One month out, and my flight to Europe is cancelled, just like that! It's the middle of three legs, so now my flight to LAX and from Milan to Porto are useless. If they change more than a few hours, they refund.Norwegian has a history of either cancelling flights or changing dates/time without so much as how do you do. You could recoup any lost cost if you had travel insurance or if it's a perk your credit card company offers. It's also fun to call them and give them a piece of your mind...or go online and leave reviews/vent... Alot of people talking about it/complaining might have some affect on their policy I would hope
Norwegian run 787's long haul - and the 787 has engine issues- AirNZ and many other airlines have problem too https://www.independent.co.uk/trave...problems-boeing-787-rolls-royce-a8322866.html
I've been looking at them - because they offer flights to Europe ex Singapore for a fraction of normal fares - but being in New Zealand I still have to get to Singapore (they don't fly this far). What I'm noticing on their long haul is that I can pay the same price travelling in a few weeks or 6 months out - so if we do go with them I'm delaying booking until a few weeks prior.
The issue isn't the refund - its getting an alternative last minute we you have bought separate tickets
Hi Lissie, I think you'll find Norweigian is stopping its Singapore/London service in January 2019.Norwegian run 787's long haul - and the 787 has engine issues- AirNZ and many other airlines have problem too https://www.independent.co.uk/trave...problems-boeing-787-rolls-royce-a8322866.html
