@alansykes will be taking that variant as he merges from the Camino de Torres, I believe. He is posting as he goes so keep an eye out for him.
Last year I was in both Allariz and Verín (not walking, though). Neither one is a "must visit" place in my opinion (I know some folks really like Allariz a lot, though), and Verín has a nice parador a bit out of town with a view of the castle. Allariz is on a river, has some nice old parts. It is near the very interesting Santa Mariña das Aguas, with a romanesque basilica and an ancient monastery, but you need a guide to visit. That visit was a highlight of the trip.
