Resigned to the fact that I will have to fly with these in checked baggage, how are they best packaged; PVC tubing, cardboard tube, box.??

Hi Jeff, Mine fold into a small fabric case and I just put them in the side pocket of my packsac and my bag went into the luggage. Air Canada would not let me take them on board. However in Europe, you can, it is not a problem. I hope this help.

on Iberia let them on the same way....Yoga bag strapped to the side or the pack...carry on.

I carried mine on in Salt Lake City last year sticking out of the top of my pack by about 12" with no problem. When I flew home from Santiago I checked them in a mesh bag. Santiago/Madrid/Chicago/Salt Lake City-good as new. YMMV.
