In Porto I'm staying at Duas Nacoes -- it is listed as good value in the Brierley book and in Lonely Planet and I concur. 25 Euros for a single room with private bath. Basic, but clean and I have a window that opens. WiFi included, although it is a bit spotty. Breakfast not included, but you can't walk half a block in this city without passing a Pastelaria. Itaipu across the little praca has gorgeous pastries and fresh juices. I splurged there yesterday morning and had a cafe con leite, a rich little pastry with whipped cream and fresh strawerries, and a very large glass of fresh maracuja juice for 4 euros.
Duas Nacoes is on the Praca Guilherme Gomes Fernandes, very central, and has a website -- http://www.duasnacoes.com.pt
Porto is worth reserving a couple of days for. Lots of theater and other events. I saw an excellent production of Antigone at the Teatro Nacional Sao Joao last night -- 11 Euros and there were cheaper seats as well. Going to an opera tonight and will start walking from Matosinhos tomorrow.
Plenty of reasonably-priced restaurants here -- at least they seem inexpensive after Lisbon.
Boa Viagem,
