That shouldn't be a problem. You have a VERY light weight sleeping bag."must have a sleeping bag." I'm not carrying a bag, only a silk liner.
Thanks, Phillypilgrim. I'll write tomorrow and ask. I have a Paypal account and thought about it, but didn't see that as an option. Hope so, as it would be so simple. Fingers crossed!I booked through Paypal, in 2013. You can send them an email asking to do this, see what happens. Good luck.

Hi, Irenie - We have a similar itinerary except that I start in SJPDP on July 15. Like you I have Belari booked. It took me a few days to hear back from Orisson, but I finally did and have them booked too! I didn't think that I would need to prebook Roncesvalles. Any advice on that would be GREATLY appreciated.
My understanding is that the tarmac road descent is only 400 metres longer than the direct descent. It has lovely views too.
At the chapel at the bottom, there is a road, and a path through a field to the left of that road that leads to a nice tree lined pathway directly to the Abbey.
The chapel is at the TOP of the Ibaneta pass. To the right of the chapel is the paved N135 road. Leading off to the left is a woodland path which descends relatively gently and arrives at the rear of the Roncesvalles church. Climb up the nearby steps to arrive at the formal, paved, tree-lined walkway. Turn right, pass through the arch and you are at the albergue. My understanding is that the tarmac road descent is only 400 metres longer than the direct descent. It has lovely views too.

Gracias for all the suggestions. I paid with PayPal for Orrison and Roncesvalles and now have reservations, I hope, for first four days. That's enough of a surprise.I booked through Paypal, in 2013. You can send them an email asking to do this, see what happens. Good luck.
Glad it worked out for you. I ended up using PayPal, and though it's easy in the end, I managed to make it a challenge! At least now I have reservations, I hope.Reserved in May and paid by credit card. No problems. Looks like they are both honest (which I never doubted) and secure.
Paid with PayPal and hope not to have top bunk. It would be a disaster to fall out of bed, at least this early on the Way.Booked Roncevalles several months ago for August got confirmation right away. Did not like the request for card details either asked about paypal but response was poor. Goggle translate was excellent so took a leap into dark? one suggestion ask for beds in new part stayed in old part last time and someone moved my bag and i lost my bunk.
Fell out of top bunk onto German lady and was mortified by her scream at 03.00 in morning. Local villagers with pitch forks and torches escorted me out (Joke)
My self and a German pilgrim took the tarmac last time and ended up walking along a busy road at the bottom of the descent , for about 40 minutes. it was dangerous and exhausting. Did we take a wromg turn??
Thanks felipe this makes sense now.Yep, the first time I arrived at Ibañeta I did not see the path, and took the tarmac road. I did not feel it as particulary dangerous, but it was uninteresting.
Last time I followed @mspath instructions (thanks!) and it went very well and pleasant. See here in Google Maps. If you are not aware, you can miss it as simply a local or private path to the cabin (actually, an ornithological center).
In addition to the main albergue with 183 pilgrim places at Roncesvalles there are also another older ' spill-over ' pilgrim albergue as well as hidden spots on the grounds which are used for pilgrim housing in prime time. All these pilgrim facilities are accessed via the ground floor desk and helpful Dutch volunteer hospitaleros at the main pilgrim. albergue.
Roncesvalles monastery has received pilgrims for the last 1000 years. With the recent expansion of the interest in pilgrimage the monastery albergue (it is not municipal ) has evolved to accept email reservations.
Read the monastery multilingual web to discover more re the long history, on-site treasures, and various accommodation possibilities.
Hi I just want to know in what way you have solved the problem of booking Roncesvalles? By PayPal or credit card?Hi, friends. I would appreciate any advice or your experiences. Using the "Favorite Albergues" download, I booked Beilari in SJPdP for August 16. I emailed Orrison, but haven't heard yet. That leaves Roncesvalles for August 18. I received a response in Spanish that I translated from The Real Collegiata de Roncesvalles, However, I'm not sure how to proceed for the payment. The choices are bank wire, very complicated. Second choice is to send credit card information in email, easy, but makes me a little apprehensive. Has anyone booked from USA via email with a credit card? In the response, "we have a couple places," so I think it might be filling up. Any advice on how to proceed? And... Real Collegiata says "must have a sleeping bag." I'm not carrying a bag, only a silk liner. Do you think a down quilt would suffice, if we're lucky enough to get in? Thank you for advice about the payment options, sleeping bag and any stories you have to share! Buen Camino.
Hola, Dengyou. I paid Roncevalles by PayPal, communicating by email in Spanish. I wrote them and asked if they would take PayPal and they agreed. I paid in full plus a dollar service charge. When are you walking? Will you stop in Orrison or hike over the mountain from SJPdP?Hi I just want to know in what way you have solved the problem of booking Roncesvalles? By PayPal or credit card?
Buen Camino

I'm happy to help in some small way. You may not need a reservation for the Roncesvalles albergue that late in the season, but for peace of mind, and just in case, it's easy enough to prebook. Buen Camino.Hi Irenie, many thanks for your reply, which is very helpful to me.
We are going to start about 24,September ,mainly for avoiding crowding season, and not stop at Orrison, directly from SJPDP to Roncesvalles .
