reservations recommended for Santiago in August?

Hi Everyone:

I am heading off on my Camino on July 11 from SJPD, and will be in Santiago around mid-August I hope. Given that it is the busiest month is it wise to make reservations in Santiago itself? I prefer not to be on the sidewalk or in the park on my last night or two. Any advice from previous August travelers?

Thanks, Bill

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi,
if you couldn't find accommodation in Santiago you could return to the refuge at Monte del Gozo and make that your base.
I didn't stay there myself but my guide book states that the first night there is free. The guide mentions 2000 places. I can't imagine it's ever full.

It is not a problem to find accomodation in Santiago in August. There are MANY hotels... 2 or 3 pilgrims albergues... and many private hostals/pensions.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
