Hi I’m Canadian . Walking my first Camino starting In SJPDP Sept 01/2018.
Not knowing quite how long it will take I was planning to purchase a return ticket over there once done . Question.
1. Do I need a return ticket as proof for entry into the country to show customs or is a tentative date of return sufficient?
Has any one else ever booked just one way?
Thanks
Brenda

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi Brenda,

The link provided above answers much more than the question asked, and is quite complete. Coles Notes Version: I am also Canadian and always fly with one way tickets. As you will be identified, outwardly, as a pilgrim, Customs does not even ask for your return ticket. Easy peasy.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Thank you for this information. I was having the same issue. I'm American from Florida. I want to just buy one-way-ticket and buy the return ticket when I'm done. The reason is, I don't want to feel rushed. To me it is not a race or a deadline to meet. If it takes me 30 days or 40. I don't want to have regrets on what I did or not do. Again thanks.

It all depends on your visa requirements. If you are from a country where a Schengen visa is required to enter Spain then you will have to show "confirmed" round trip tickets at the time of application. Confirmed does not mean purchased - it means you should reserve flights with a confirmed reference number.
The Schengen website advise NOT to purchase tickets until your visa is approved.
A lot of people understand confirmed as purchased tickets but it is not. You will be at risk of loosing money if you buy non-refundable tickets before your visa application if it applies to you.
