el correogallego.es/ reports that now that the Pope has been and gone the scaffolding will be re-erected around the Portico and renovations will resume.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
Thanks for the reference to the article, Sil. It looks like the scaffolding will be there for a while.

One thing that the article didn't mention was whether there was going to be an opportunity for visitors to go up to see the portico up close. I was able to do that in May and it was unbelievable. Tickets were available in the lower level entrance of the cathedral (where the reconstruction of the maestro's choir stalls are) -- free, but very limited. I went there as soon as I arrived in Santiago and was lucky that they had one space free for that very afternoon. Some of the people in my group told me that they had ordered their tickets months earlier, so I don't know if there's an online option or what. In any event, if you're there and have the opportunity, it's a once in a lifetime chance and just an incredible experience to be 4 feet from those sculptures.

Last year I went to book tickets for the excellent Portico of Gloria Tour. A stroke of luck was that I booked the first tickets for the tour and was offered one in English. Whatever language, go for it if you have the opportunity.
