Hi! My name is Martin and I am 42 years old. I am coming from Germany.
I plan my first camino from SJPDP to Santiago for August 2018. I am lucky that my family (wife and 2 children) supports the idea.

Thanks to all of you for the resources and tipps.

I have started to learn Spanish with duolingo two weeks ago. I hope I can improve my Spanish later on with Spanish radio and things like "newsinslowspanish". It will be not necessary on the Camino Frances... but if I have got one year time for preparation, I would like it very much to be able to communicate with the Spanish people in a basic way.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Welcome Martin.

Like you I studied Spanish for a year before I walked the Francés. I could have easily gotten by with only English but knowing some Spanish made it so much more enjoyable for me. I with you well with your learning and your planning.

Buen Camino!

Thanks Mike!
There are wonderful photos on your homepage... and some I recognised as Camino-photos.

Buen Camino!

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Thanks Martin. There definitely are photos from the various caminos I have walked (and many others.) I'm glad you enjoyed them.

I read "The Lord of the Rings" as a bedtime story for my two daughters. We got to the hiking poem in the last book... it is similar to this one:
[from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Road_Goes_Ever_On_(song) ]

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
