Hello,

I'm hiking the Camino from Barcelona to Santiago, starting later this month. I'm worried, though, that I will run out of time on my visa. I'm an American citizen, so I think that means I have 90 days in a 180 day period to spend in EU countries, but I will have already spent around thirty of those days by the time I begin. Does anyone have any experience with similar situations? Is it possible to get an extension?

Thanks --

p.s. Oh, and if anyone knows a good place to get equipment (anything I can buy used would be great) in Barcelona, let me know (this should probably be a different topic).

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Good luck. I've searched for an answer to this dilemma and haven't found one yet, except to go out of the Schengen states to walk, then return to Spain.
If you get better information, please PM me.

We were told by the Spanish Embassy in Canberra to go to the nearest police station in Spain and present passports and flight details and show how much money you have with you when you are getting close to the 90 day limit. They then put into motion an extension on your 90 days which apparently takes about 90 days to process!
Good luck
Sharon

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
