Hola! This is all both easier and more challenging than I imagined. My plans have adjusted a bit, I will stay in Madrid tonight and tomorrow night... then head for St. Jean. By then, I should have figured out how to get there.
This already feels like a great adventure... as well as being my great spiritual journey.

Re: In Madrid, on my way to St. Jean

Madrid was wonderful, and fairly easy. I stayed at Hostal Miralva near the center of the city. Decent accomodations, with singles as well as dorms. (I stayed in a dorm and was glad to meet some helpful people.)

I took the Metro from the airport to get there. Easy for me even with very very little Spanish. This morning took the metro to Atoche Renfo, got the train to Pamplona. I am now in Pamplona... at an internet kiosk (still had time on it. I'm calling it divine intervention) checking in with friends and family.
I think I need to get a bus to St. Jean... and I will try to figure that out when I am done here. Worst case, I will find a place to stay here in Pamplona... but hopefully I will get to St. Jean today. Then... off on my Camino.

I am a couple of days behind my schedule... but just letting things go how they will... I am lucky to have planty of time. I fly back to the states out of Madrid on Dec. 13. I am hoping that gives me (chubby old lady) enough time to walk the camino and finish. I will have to go slow... at least for a while, and think I will take more than a day to get from St. Jean to Roncevalle. Fortunately, God has been watching over me thus far on my adventures... and in His goodness, will continue to do so.
Buen Camino my fellow peregrinos. I will update as I am able.

Re: Madrid, Pamplona, on to St. Jean!

I am checked in and spending the night at Jesus y Maria Albergue in Pamplona... as the bus only goes once a day, and it had already left before I arrived in Pamplona.
At the Albergue, I met a fellow from Boston who had done just what I plan... that is, spend the night here (Got my credential here) then bus to SJPdP tomorrow... then start ot for "Real" from St. Jean.

Here is a nice hint: Thursdays in Pamplona the local establishments have half-price tapas and vino. Oh my goodness it it worth it.

I am at the albergue in Larrasoaña, having taken a short day today. The doors are open, but nobody is here. The sign says they will be back at 6pm to stamp credentials.
