St Jean: What Time Do Things Close?

Hello all! I will be arriving in St Jean on a late-ish, around 19h30. Does anyone know if restaurants/shops will still be open? Or know what time they tend to open in the morning? Just trying to figure out if I'll be able to find a place to eat and/or be able to check out the shops before I start walking the next day.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
There are lots of closings on Sunday and Monday. Restaurants will be open for breakfast most days, but shops may not open until 10 a.m. Shops close midday and at about 7 p.m. Restaurants may close Sunday evening, but are generally open other nights until about 10 p.m.

Hello,

Wondering if you will be on the evening train (near 18:00) leaving from Bayonne. If so, you might be one arriving an hour or more before this departure to SJPdP.

There has been two solutions to prevent the run around early the next day when you might want to start walking. On two occasions, I had plenty of time in Bayonne while waiting for the train. During this time, it was easy to find a wonderful outside market back across the bridge and the "supermercado" a bit closer to the station. It was nice to be able to pick up ample food supplies for the next day and get something hot to eat from one of the many small eateries nearby. This way when arriving in SJPdP, all that was needed is finding my accommodations for the evening and pilgrim's office if necessary.

Hopefully this will give a little assistance to you or any others wondering the same.

Cheers,
Simeon

In Saint Jean the pilgrim office of the Amis du Chemin de Saint Jacques at 39 rue de la Citadelle usually stays open for the arrival of the last train. Their telephone is 05 59 37 05 09. In season the pilgrims office is open from 7h30 to 12h30 and then from 13h30 to 22h. They can provide you with a Credential, on site lodging assistance, and info on where to eat and shop. Be sure to visit the Amis!!
