Time of past OR future Camino
April 2013
My name is AJ and I will be starting the Camino Frances at St Jean Pied de Port on April 1 or 2. I am 32 years old and have backpacked 27 countries in the past 4 months. I am an experienced hiker and outdoorsman from the USA and am eager to meet other peregrinos. I will walk the frances and finisterre. Anyone want to join? The more the merrier. Guys, girls, old, young - all are welcome and I am very social and outgoing. I am also an avid yogi and vegetarian. Non smoker.

Welcome, AJ! I am sure you will find many pilgrims to travel with on your journey. We do not begin our Camino until mid-April, so you will be ahead of us. I hope you have an awesome journey. Be sure to check on the weather with the pilgrim's office in SJPP before attempting the Route Napoleon! Buen Camino!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
snow

I have just talked to the information center in SJPDPD- One meter of snow, the Napoleon trail is closed. It's not permitted by local police to hike it.
you can cross using the road, meaning walking on asphalt.
if I were you I had skipped this part and start from roncevalles cauthiously. thers'e snow there too .

This week will have sunshine Sunday and rain Monday and Tuesday in the Pyrenees mountains with a warning for thawing, which I take to mean wet and muddy. By Thursday through Saturday snow is predicted again with a snow level at 300 meters and winds to 25 kph. The temperatures are not expected to be bitterly cold, and there is nothing yet on the amount of expected snow. Those predictions will be made later in the week.

I suppose the best that can be said of the mountain crossing is that the weather could be better! With rain and then snow, the view may be obscured. With thawing the road will be OK, but the path probably muddy and slippery.

Buen camino (and listen to the Pilgrim Office in SJPdP)!

Thank you for the information! I will check again tomorrow at the office in SJPdP. :)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
