Wanted to know if I start in carrion de los condes what is the best way to get there from madrid?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
You might have to get to Leon first http://www.alsa.es
And then change to a bus that'll take you to Carrion.
15:15 17:10 LEON to CARRION DE LOS CONDES 1h 55m 8,98 €

Carrion is straight north from Palencia, much closer than Leon, less than 40 km. Take the train Madrid to Palencia, and walk across the park to the bus station to catch one of several daily coaches up to Carrion. (Carrion´s got no train service.)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
I recommend the albergue behind the church of Santa Maria in the middle of town. It is run by a group of nuns. It was a wonderful experience and the nuns are delightful! Go to 6:00pm vespers at the church and hear them sing, and pilgrim Mass later in the evening! :-D - M

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
It is invaluable to have someone 'in the field'! Thanks Reb - I have saved your directions for future use.

Ditto ditto ditto. They've also got a communal meal and a group sing-a-long type thing. Such a great albergue. One of my top three for sure. Perfect place to stay if you're just starting out.

Thank you everyone I still have not decided if I should start in Sahagun or Carrion. Is there a nice place in Sahagun that anyone can recommend for beginning the camino?

Noni,

If you want to stay in a pilgrim albergue the Sahagun municipal Albergue de Peregrinos Cluny installed upstairs in the disused Iglesia de la Trinidad quickly gets you into the Camino ambiance.

For centuries Sahagun once held the most powerful Benedictine monastery in Spain, related to Cluny in France. Most of that huge complex was destroyed in a 19th century fire.

Today a clever contemporary steel sculpture of St James dressed as a pilgram (his head is a garden spade) marks the albergue entrance. Plywood partitions divide the huge space into alcoves with four bunks in each. There are good showers and a small kitchen. See their page on the Eroski site. >> http://caminodesantiago.consumer.es./albergue-de-peregrinos-cluny#bloque-informacion.

Buen Camino,

Margaret

Albergue de Peregrinos Cluny
It is a multi-use building with art exhibits and concerts downstairs. It echos a lot. Be aware that on weekends your sleep may conflict with an event open to the public.
