Starting on Sept 7... Was okay but freaking out a bit!

My name is Greg Neutra and I will be starting my Camino from Burgos bright and early the morning of Sept 7th. Planning to reach Santiago 29 days later on Oct 5. One of my challenges is a bum ankle and that's why I'm setting my bar at 300 miles in 29 days. I feel that I've done what I can to get myself ready physically but I'm just realizing that I really don't haven't gotten my stages figured out nor have I picked the auberges that I want to stay in. There are so many ways to pace oneself and so many choices of places to stay along the way!

Any sage advice about getting past this moment of overwhelm would be greatly appreciated...

Hola Greg

I can understand you need for reassurance. All will be well. From Burgos you will be able to walk in stages as you wish - you will cover 489 kms and you have 29 days to do this in - have a look at this tool: http://www.godesalco.com/plan/frances where you can look at where the disctances between the albergues etc. You don't need to pick anything in advance just start walking.

Just remember, it's EASY and very inexpensive to catch a bus from most villages and a taxi is about 1 euro per kilometer. So take rests when you need them and taxi or bus if your ankle acts up.

All will be well... Buen Camino!

I am already feeling the warmth and support from my fellow peregrinos and I haven't set foot on the trail yet! Thanks so much to all of you for your support and especially to falcon269 for taking the time to draft a whole itinerary for me. I am feeling much better!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Falcon's generosity in coming up with a possible itinerary for Greg is what is so beautiful about the Camino community.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Falcon,

Not sure if you're watching this post anymore... You mentioned in your proposed itinerary for me (thanks again!) that it included "some of my favorite albergues". It's completely clear with the small towns that only have one but most of the locations have multiple albergues to choose from. Do you have a spearate list of your favorites? Thanks!

Sorry, but I like too many of them! I have three favorites in Sarria alone...

Heya Greg,

All the best with your pilgrimage. I too start on the 7th of September, but from St. Jean Pied de Port. I will be thinking of you on your camino. I hope the ankle holds up!

Who knows, the way might have us meet!

Buen Camino!

Tristan

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Þakka þér kærlega fyrir kæri Falcon
Thank you very much dear Falcon
It is so nice to have these names of the albergues, you feel like you are coming to a place you know rather than quite a foreign place if you understand what I mean, something a friend recommended. Sunday mornig I will fly from here and start walking September 3 and meet all you lovely people.
Buen camino
