I am very interested in walking the northern route, mainly because I hear that the Camino Frances has become very busy. People describe the northern route as peaceful and scenic – but when I look at the map it seems to follow closely the route of all the major roads along the coast. What is the northern route really like day to day – is it calm and peaceful?! Is it scenic? Or will I spend a lot of time walking with the sound of the motorway?
I would really value the opinions of people who have been this way.

Yes! Calm, peaceful and scenic and not near motorways but hard on the feet and ankles as lots of ups and downs and asphalt.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

would you say that if you had the right shoes that it would be easier...of course the ups and downs are difficult but to walk by all those beaches gives me a real head turner towards the Norte

For me I think it was the asphalt and I became nervous of the slippery downhill paths. We each slipped onto our bottoms on separate occasions, three of us. Living near the beach so not a big deal for me.
Ended up taking a bus from Oviedo to Leon and felt as though I had come home. Love the Frances!
Sorry to say although there some wonderful walks, views, albergues and many friendly pilgrims, the Norte didn't do it for me
We are all different so don't be put off. My friend and I were 66 by the way so could be age related!!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
