Salutations all! I’m starting my first CF next Monday (and I can barely sleep in anticipation), arriving in SJPdP on Sunday via the 3pm train. I’m certain most food shops close early on Sunday, but anyone know of a secret open Mercado? Was hoping to get some basic food to snack on while traversing the Napoleon. I also understand there’s an open market on Mondays, but it doesn’t seem to open until 8am, and I was hoping to be well on my way by then, but maybe some shops open earlier? Any advice from this Council of Sage Pilgrims? ¡Muchísimas gracias!

There is a Carrefour, but it is only open in the morning on Sundays.

A selection of Camino Jewellery
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Carrefour near la Gare de Bayonne is open on Sundays from 9 - 21 hrs.
But you won't make that with 15 minutes to spare.

Saint Jean is a tourist town. Small shops are open on Sundays and you will be able to buy bread, cheese and ham without a doubt. I even had a sandwich made in one of the shops very early in the morning before I headed out of town.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

That’s what I was hoping to hear! Thanks!

The local bakery will be open Sunday and Monday from 6 am to 1 pm.

It is located directly on the main road through that little village. The address is
Ogitegia
38 rue d'Espagne
64220 Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port
Perfection! Thank you! I can swing by in the morning and then start my adventure well-stocked! 🥖

Hello,
Monday morning is market day at SJPDP. Producers set up shop very early in the morning and you'll find all sorts of victuals to sample the products of the Basque Country.
