Taking good care of your feet in advance

Time of past OR future Camino
From Le Puy to Santiago (2016)
I am doing great in my training for next year Via Podiensis but I developed some pain in my right ankle. After going to first my doctor, then X-rays and finally a foot specialist I am in for specially made insoles. I'm thrilled that I took care of this situation already now so my feet can be in optimal shape for my walk next spring. I am writing this to encourage anyone who wants to walk the Camino to make sure your feet are OK before undertaking such a big adventure.

There are quite a few resources on this topic. Search YouTube for taping techniques to prevent plantar fasciitis. My favorite book is "Fix Your Feet", which outlines multiple prevention methods (taping and powdering are my favorites). I can't say often enough: The training period is as much for sorting out your footgear and other equipment as it is for preparing your body.

Darn good advice. I'm happy that I got in touch with a really good pediatric clinic and take the necessary steps to prevent an early break down.

So many people seem to embark on a camino with quite serious physical impairments that one feels embarrassed to mention relatively minor problems. I'm glad you did! There are lots of resources, but none mentioned my problem, so I too am seeing a podiatrist. I absolutely agree that with a prospective camino it's wise to check out this kind of thing.

Normally it would probably be harmless, but the stress of long daily walks for weeks might risk permanent damage. As an older pilgrim, that's a risk I don't want to take.

Went to my podiatrist today and I'm getting my insoles so I can practice with them before my walk in May. The doctor was all fired up about my upcoming hike. So comforting to meet so much enthusiasm from everyone who hears about the Camino.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
My podiatrist thinks I am a fool, for doing these long distance walks! But after alomot 8 months of pain after del Norte she,had me fixed for last May!
