Time of past OR future Camino
10th of June 2017
So, I'm planning to do el camino Frances starting 10th of June. I would like to visit los picos de Europa and I'm wondering if that's possible to do by walk from el camino Frances?
Also, do you know if there will be hostels on the way to picos de europa?

Thank you very much

Isabella

Hello Isabella,

Back in 2015 I walked The frances route, but I took a break from The Camino for some weeks to travel in Asturias.
So what I did was to get a bus from Leon once we got there to Oviedo, I believe The bus took about 3 hours and it wasnt too expensive, from there I took another bus to Cangas de Onis wich is verk close to The national park.

From Cangas i got a lift from an englishman Who lived there, but i know for sure that there are buses that Will take you further towards picos de europa.
I hope this helped, it is very beautiful up there!

PS
The buses towards Oviedo/Cangas are scheduled several Times per Day, so there was plenty of choices.
I booked everything through www.rome2rio.com

Kind Regards
Joachim

If you have time it would be a shame to take the bus or train from Leon to Oviedo. The 120 km Camino del Salvador is absolutely wonderful. Several members have posted on their recent trips there, and everyone agrees with my assessment. From Oviedo you can easily get deeper into the Picos.

I have time and it would be perfect! But are there many hostels on that way?

Thank you!

In Grada there is a new albergue (opened 2016) which is often staffed by Australian voluntary hospitaleros. I think it has about 18 beds (bunks) and does NOT provide an evening meal

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
