I am setting out from SJPdP on 19 March 2018. Getting high with anticipation.
Have a 32 to 35 day route planned.
I live in the Blue Mountains just out of Sydney, Australia.
Although I am starting on my own, my good mate Tom Tomlin from Melbourne is meeting up with me about two weeks into my journey.
I've had lots of support and advice from the Blue Mountains Camino group which has been most valuable in preparing me to this point. Now the rest is up to me.
I think that at my time of life this is an opportunity to reflect on my achievements, what I might have done better and how things would have been different had I made better decisions. I also want to reflect on my cancer problems. People who know me well know I don't give my cancer a thought except for my 3 monthly check ups. But I do need to think a little more about this and related matters.
So here I am - about to commence a great adventure. I've been training for a year and I'm ready to go. Just me and my back pack and the uncertainty of where I'll sleep each night. But there are many like minded pilgrims on the journey with whom to share the experience and share food and wine on the journey.

AussieWayne,

Have a wonderful journey! May all your dreams and planning come true.

As Sir Walter Raleigh wrote in the 16th century in His Pilgrimage

"GIVE me my scallop-shell of quiet,
My staff of faith to walk upon,
My scrip of joy, immortal diet,
My bottle of salvation,
My gown of glory, hope's true guage;
And thus I'll take my pilgrimage....
"

Buen camino!

From one Aussie to another you will love it..... I am walking from Lisbon at the moment and it is hard due to lack of accomodation on the track and blisters but I still love it but not as much as the Francais and Norte. Buen Camino......

Hey Wayne! We lived mid Mountains a few years ago - such a beautiful place in our world. Not short on tracks for training eh!

My husband, two boys and I will be leaving sjpdp the day before you. If you catch up and see us, please come and say hello, I'd love to reminisce about Mountains!

Sounds like you have, and continue to kick cancer's butt. I hope you and your friend have an amazing experience

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

Many thanks everyone for your very kind comments.
Its great to receive your encouragement.
I am eagerly anticipating the journey and will keep a few posts going on my progress.

Gumba - I arr SJPdP later on 17 Mar and spending the 18th getting organised including visting to pilgrim office and doing a bit of sightseeing before heading to Roncesvalles on the 19th. I am staying 200m away from the office at Hotel Ramuntcho. We might indeed see each other.

Camino connections starting already!!!!! Its just fantastic!

I wish you all the best on your journey. I am sure it will be a wonderful one. I did this Camino eight years ago and have done a few after that. And I am glad you start on the 19th of March, it´s my birthday.
Take care and Buen Camino from a pilgrim in Iceland.

Buen Camino i started my CF from SJPDP last year March 19th and arrived in Santiago April 24th. You’ll love it and will discover not only the answers you seek but way more!
