How much does it rain along the camino in May? (leon- santiago) The real question is about shoes. Waterproof vs. Quick Dry?
Also, do we need nice clothes to go into the churches, or are we excused because we're pilgrims?

You don't need to wear anything fancy when attending mass or visiting churches. Hiking clothes (as long as they are not too revealing) are normal wear for pilgrims in houses of worship.
