Camino from Tuy, Spain to Santiago de Compostela (June/July 2016)
Hello pilgrims,
Our family is planning to walk the Porto-Santiago Camino from June 20 to July 1. We will be taking the interior route. We have read that the weather in mid to late June is rather dry, with only passing showers on occasion. Also, the temperature range is 12-18 Celsius (54-65 F) during the day. Are these good assumptions from which to make our clothing choices? Do you recommend rain gear/ waterproof shoes?

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful comments. Buen Camino!

Where did you find those temperatures? That is way too low. 12 degrees during the day is what you have in dead winter in Porto/northern Portugal.
15-25 degrees with some days peaking at around 30 degrees is more realistic.
I suggest googling Porto weather forecast and have look how it is even now in May

I agree with beiramat. September 2015 I watched the temperatures for September in preparation for my planned departure September 2016 and the temperatures were well into the high 20's and some days in the 30's even into autumn. Prepare for warm, warm, hot.

2013, I started in Porto around 1 July, it was 35 to 40 for the first 3 days.

You're going to be hot on most days. Avoid walking between midday/one o'clock and late afternoon. If you have a reservation for the next stay, have a light lunch, relax in a shadowy area for three hours and make sure you carry a LOT of water.

Due to schedule, I am only able to do the Caminos during June/July. For this reason, I prefer to walk by half 6 or earlier if the rest of the room is up. A comfortable pace allows me to cover whatever the path brings me for the day and usually able to be at rest place by 13:30. Since the sun beams, no need for me walk any further. A shower and cold drink in hand is preferred. Nap time ensues. Dress for warm and layer if needed.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Thank you so much for all of your collective advice! It's clear that we have been misinformed and need to be better prepared for the hot weather. Does it rain much during late June in Porto-Santiago area? We had been told that it does not rain much, but again, we have no idea. Thank you again and Buen Camino!
