Portuguese Camino June 2015
Hi there! My husband and I are about to embark on the Portuguese camino, we are very excited! I just have a couple of questions though if anyone could help me out with the answers that would be amazing! Thanks in advance!

1. Where do we physically start the Camino from in Lisbon?
2. Is it easy to collect a guide and our passports from Igreja dos Martires in Lisbon?
3. Are supplies easy to get along the way (like plasters, shampoo, soap?)

Thanks so much!

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
I started in the Lisbon Cathedral as it made sense for me. You can get a credential and a lovely first stamp there. I had intended to go to the Igerja dos Martires as the guidebook suggested but an earlier stop at the Cathedral told me that it felt right for me. Some people also start at the nearby St .James Church.

There is no "guide" to pick up. I bought a Brierly guide but you can also download a Via Lusitana guide. (http://www.vialusitana.org)

I had no problem picking up supplies along the way.

In addition standing and facing the entrance of the Sé cathedral in the right corner of the church portal down near the ground is the first yellow waymarker, pointing round the corner so you walk at the right side of the church and pick up the rest of the waymarkers direction Parque das Naçoes /Moscavide.

Supplies. Everywhere are so called supermercados, farmacias, recognisable at mostly green neon light flashing crosses .

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I would have liked to started my Portuguese camino from Lisbon as I love the city. However I began in Porto. The long stretches at the beginning of the camino out of Lisbon were daunting to me. I understand that more places to stay are being opened and there are various ways to adjust the long stretches. I followed Magwood's account of her camino and loved it. Enjoy you camino, Portugal and its people are fantastic.

Being a bit inventive you easily could walk from Lisbon .we made it with a max of 20 kms a day.I wrote it several times on this forum as did many others. Read back for some time and you only have to copy what many of us did before.

We are in Lisbon and have been to both of the cathedrals, bookstores, and tourist information kiosks but can't find the John Brierley guide anywhere! does anyone have any tips on where to find one? Is it absolutely imperative that we have one? Thanks in advance!

I would hesitate to walk without a guide book. You might have better luck looking at one of the local bookstores or using a guidebook by a local author. How well do your read Portuguese or Spanish? There is an English guide available for download from the Resources tab on this forum.
