For those of you walking the French Way now (or recently or soon), do you know if the parochial albergue in Zabaldika is open now or may be open by September? I see that it was closed a couple of months ago, but hoping things might be changing. Thanks.

It is closed for the time being, exactly as Peter said. It really is worth the short little climb up, though, to the area at the church. Then you can continue skirting the hill till you meet the other path that winds up from the rest area down below. Unless you prefer to take the low road, along by the river. Sunday tomorrow, should be lots of people at the picnic area at the bridge in Irotz, and a chance to swim if you need to cool off!

I can confirm that the albergue in Zabaldika is temporarily closed as is the Parada de Zuriain. I didn’t pay enough attention in Larrasoaña to know for sure, but it seems like, for now, after Zubiri you’ll have to go all the way to Villava-Burlada for your next stop.

Albergue municipal in Larrasoaña is open according to pilgrims I spoke with when having a coffee break at La Parada de Zuriain. So that last one is also open (but maybe the albergue is closed, I didn't check that).

Albergue Municipal in Larrasoaña is open every day except Wednesday. I stayed there a few days ago. Currently it can offer 16 beds. The private one is open too and they take reservations. Not much to eat in that village though if you don't like microwave type food. No camping allowed in the village - there is a sign at the entrance.

Roncesvalles or push to Burguete? I prefer to avoid the recommended stages to avoid the race for albergues. Do you suggest Burguete? Is Roncesvalles too busy?
