Does anyone have any information about this wayside cross, located just outside of Astorga, between Astorga and Rabanal? On the base of the cross are the words "Peregrinos Identes." I think it is Galician for Pilgrim Identity, but not sure. P5170833.JPG Just curious.

Peregrinos Identes not only walk towards Santiago but also towards God.

"Idente" is a neologismo, it stems from "Id y predicad el Evangelio" or "Go and preach the Gospel"
"Idente" is constructed with the id of the imperative of the Spanish verb of ir (to go) and ending with the Latin participle ens, -entis.
Identes are those who are on their way.

Great info! Can you point me to a good source for that, preferably in English? Wikipedia was of no help so I'd like to update one or two Wikipedia entries with this explanation.

This missionary institution, as its name indicates, proposes to fulfill the Gospel command Id y predicad el Evangelio ("Go and teach all nations"). The term "idente" is a neologism constructed with the imperative id of the Spanish verb ir and the ending "ente," from the Latin participle –ens, -entis. It means 'to journey in permanent union with the divine filial consciousness of Christ.'

Wow, I did not know that. I remember that cross though. It caught my attention.
Thanks

I've been looking for some more information about this cross.
The only mention about the year 1988 that I have found sofar is that the Juventud Idente (Idente Youth) started their yearly pilgrimage from Astorga to Santiago in 1988. http://juventudidente.org/ruta-jacobea/

Promoted personally by Fernando Rielo (*founder of Idente), the pilgrimage has been organized since 1988. Based on the cultural, religious and historical heritage of the Camino de Santiago, 'la Ruta Jacobea' seeks to foster the development of young people in their relationship with God, nature and society around them.

A group of young people (18+) from various countries and religious backgrounds will be walking to SdC from 12 to 25 July. Folder with requirements and rules (in English) here or use the link on the page of Juventud Idente.
