I've seen something about tennis balls being used for things like that. Check it out and maybe experiment. It may not work as well but with the size and weight savings you might decide to go with it. A rolled yoga mat may do the trick too and also do double duty unrolled as a seat cushion. If carried folded inside the pack it can protect your back from protrusions.

The Physio roller needs to be quite hard to do the job. a rolled up mat just wouldn't work. A tennis ball is too small. (might be OK to use on the feet)
Just weighed it. 320 gms. I would give up a lot of things, before I gave up my roller! Even food! I could not make it without it. On my first Camino I developed shin splints. With this. None! If I didn't use it, the shins starting hurting..........
