I have used wikiloc for years on my Garmin Dakota GPS when I walk untraveled routes. I don’t know how it works on a phone, but as I walk, the GPS shows me as a moving black line, so I can tell if I am close to the track, which is a different...

This is helpful and clear. But I am still confused. I have used the Wikiloc app for Cami Sant Jaume and Aragones, and enjoy having a good map with a yellow line showing the route done by someone else who has done the stage I am about to walk...

Tarifa is a pretty town and historically important as the first place in Europe conquered by the Moors. I just feel I would have enjoyed it more when it was a fishing port before the wind surfers took it over. I'm looking forward to getting up...

Hi Johan, there might be not sufficient yellow arrows in Cadiz province, but once you pass to Sevilla, there will be plenty of signs. Use wikiloc in case of doubt, but you should be fine. Enjoy!

You can also download offline maps in the Wikiloc app.

Indeed. On the other hand, an advantage of using something like Maps.me or similar is that you can download the map in advance for offline use, which is often useful in mountain areas or other remote places on the camino where there's no signal.

An advantage to using Wikiloc is you can set the app to signal you if you veer off the track you're following. With this feature you don't have to look at your phone at every intersection or fork.

I used GPS tracks furnished by the Dutch confraternity when we walked the Via Serrana this past fall. https://www.santiago.nl/ We affectionately called those tracks "the Dutch guys". It worked quite well - they recommended downloading a GPS...
    • Johan van der Hoven
I have walked both but it never occurred to me to compare them, as I think that Asturias/Galicia and Andalucía are about as far removed from each other as you can get in Spain. The Vía Serrana is shorter and easier with less elevation change; I...
