Samsung translator app - real experience in Spain?

Undermanager

My phone is ancient so have been looking at options for a change, mainly an iPhone 15 or S24. Samsung's latest S24 set of phones have been heavily marketing their translator app. Has anyone been using the translator in Spain on their Caminos? If so, how have you found it? Marketing hype over substance or a genuine game-changer? As someone who has been hopeless at languages all his life, I'd be interested in anything that helps .....

I used google translate running on an iphone XS ( thats what , 5 or 6 years old?) several times in the last couple days in Spain, and it worked perfectly. That was with the microphone having conversations. I’m not sure how much they could improve it…? Certainly not enough to buy an $800 phone!

Hi - I have a S23 which has the translate on it and it is excellent, I haven't used in Europe yet but will be in April. I have Chinese neighbours who are new to Canada and we use it together often. I especially like the audio direct translate so you aren't typing away.....Just speak in and it translate visually which is great.

I spent half my career listening to tech wonks expounding that if I only did one thing (spend money) they could do something amazing (they usually didn't even when my masters spent the money). And in the absence of a translation app smiling, pointing, raising my eyebrows, and when i got the result i needed placing my hand over my heart while bowing slightly have got me through an infinite number of doorways
